Support for OASPA conference contributors

OASPA recognises that some of our invited contributors may not be recognised or compensated by their organisation for participating in our events. Their organisation may have a small budget or operate outside scholarly communication – or the contributor may not be affiliated to any organisation.

To facilitate participation by individuals who have been invited to contribute and are not otherwise compensated, OASPA offers an honorarium of €500 for committee members and session chairs, and €250 for invited speakers. The honorarium is offered to all invited contributors, with the intent that those who do not need it will not request it: we entrust the decision to our invitees. Please note that details of supported contributors is confidential with visibility only to OASPA for payment purposes.

Though the amount might not compensate fully for time given, we hope it will enable participation by those who would otherwise not be able to attend.

We introduce the honorarium for the first time in 2022, as part of our broader effort to increase the breadth of participation in our events and combat inequities. This and other initiatives will be developed and refined with community input.

Feedback on this new initiative is warmly welcomed via email to bernie.folan@oaspa.org
