Membership Benefits

OASPA is working to bring together the Open Access publishing community. By joining OASPA, you can help to build a collective voice in support of OA journals publishing, share your experiences with others, and help develop industry standards to the benefit of all OA .  Your membership also entitles you to special opportunities to take part in meetings, discussions and educational opportunities related to developing and sustaining OA publishing models.

Membership of OASPA is only granted following an in-depth application review process and we advise all applicants to familiarise themselves with details of the process that their application will undergo. People who wish to apply for membership should first ensure that they meet the OASPA membership criteria and then email us at memberships@oaspa.org stating their interest.

In addition to the general benefits of membership described above, the OASPA Board is currently working with various partners to develop specific member benefits:

    • OASPA has signed an agreement with PILA to establish an Association Sponsored Membership Agreement. According to this agreement, OASPA will sponsor membership in CrossRef for those members in our ‘Scholar Publisher’ category who are interested in participating.  OASPA will cover the cost of membership in CrossRef on behalf of our Scholar Publisher members and will pay for up to 50 DOIs per annum. In addition we have registered for the CrossCheck service which can also benefit our Scholar Publishers.  Eligible members wishing to join CrossRef via the OASPA sponsored membership, or interested in finding out more about using CrossCheck, should contact the secretariat at memberships@oaspa.org for more information.

  • The Scholarly Exchange is a not-for-profit service that provides hosting for OA journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS). The Scholarly Exchange maintains the journal web site, OJS software and performs regular backups of the journals hosted on their system. Use of the Scholarly Exchange for hosting your journal is free for the first year after which there is a $750 (US) charge per year that can optionally be offset by context sensitive advertising income from advertisements on the journal’s web site. The Scholarly Exchange is providing a 20% discount to OASPA members reducing the yearly charge from $750 to $600 after the first year of free hosting. You can obtain the discount after your first year of free hosting by informing the Scholarly Exchange of your membership status.
