Publication Charge Policy
Taylor & Francis / Routledge Open journals levy an article publishing charge (APC) for all accepted and published articles to cover the costs of open access publication. Waivers and discounts are applicable (see journal pages for further information).

Journals that are part of the Taylor & Francis / Routledge Open Select portfolio offer authors the choice to:
EITHER
i) Publish without payment of any charge – the article is then published on a subscription access basis
OR
ii) Publish their research and pay an APC – the article is made open access upon confirmation of payment.

Waivers
Authors are eligible to apply for a full or partial waiver of the appropriate article publishing charge (APC) if they are based in eligible Research4Life nations. Authors based in a Group A country can apply for a full waiver; authors based in a Group B country can apply for a 50% discount.

Waivers may also be granted in exceptional cases at submission stage. Requests should include details of the affiliation and country of residence of all authors, details of where the research was conducted, and confirmation of all research grant funding received.

Membership schemes
A number of institutions have signed up to an open access memberships, which means that authors may be eligible to have their APC covered by their institution, or be entitled to a discount on the APC. A list of current partners and further information is here: http://www.tandfonline.com/page/openaccess/members.

All Cogent Series journals have adopted the pilot Freedom APCs initiative, whereby authors (or their institution or funder) select the most appropriate article publishing charge at the submission stage based on their specific financial circumstances. Article publishing charges then apply if the article is accepted for publication by the independent academic editors.

Within this policy, our standard recommended APC for all journals in the Cogent Series is $1250 (£781/€977/AU$1367), which supports the costs associated with the ongoing provision of open access publishing for the research community.

Cogent OA journals are part of the Taylor & Francis membership scheme. More information can be found here: http://cogentoa.tandfonline.com/page/aboutCogentOA/societies

All papers submitted to Dove Medical Press are done so under the open access publishing model. The Publication Processing Fee is only invoiced to the author, or their institution, if the paper is accepted for publication by the Editor (after the peer review process). Payment of this charge allows Dove Medical Press (a for-profit company) to recover its editorial and production costs and create a pool of funds that can be used to provide fee waivers for authors from lesser developed countries. These authors and individual waiver requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be applied for using this link: http://www.dovepress.com/author_guidelines.php?content_id=3120.

Dove Medical Press journals are not currently part of the Taylor & Francis membership scheme.

The peer review process is carried out separately from the invoicing and article publishing charge process. To guarantee peer review integrity, the waiver process is not managed by journal academic editors.

All journals published by Cogent OA are peer reviewed with handling editors named on published articles.
